A Man and his Dream -words & music: Kieran Hegarty V1. There’s no load on his lorry…but a load’s on his mind Driving home in the city, he can’t leave it all behind Tomorrow will be the same…the same old dead beat No end to the struggle, of trying to make ends meet V2. He thinks back to his boyhood, a farming life he knew The time had come to make a break, to make a start anew He found a piece of land…a place to call his own Though he was close to fifty…he started off again Chorus A hard man he had to be…he worked himself to the bone But there was more to his toil…than just ‘boxing-on’ V3. As the years go marching by him, the family starts to grow They work & learn to labour…like a hundred years ago When the time comes later, they scatter & they roam Their hunger won’t be sated…while dreams are in their bones Chorus A hard man he had to be…he worked himself to the bone But there was more to his toil…than just ‘boxing-on’ A hard man I can be…I can work myself to the bone But there’s more to my toil…than just ‘boxing-on’

Away Laughing Words & music: Kieran Hegarty V1. When I stumble & trip…& limp on my feet From so many stones in my shoes I call ‘a halt’… take a step back …’till I’m away laughing again V1. If I’m tied up in knots, and twisted inside And snagged like a ship that’s marooned I back myself up …unravel the mess …’till I’m away laughing again & again …So I’m away laughing again Bridge There are places & spaces I don’t go anymore Coz I’ll end up flat on the floor Finding the ways to keep ‘floating my boat’ Don’t seem so hard anymore …and I’m away laughing again & again …So I’m away laughing again V3. When I’m down on my luck…& buried in mud Sinking in over my head I drag myself up…shake myself down …’till I’m away laughing again & again …So I’m away laughing again V4. When I’m sailing along & the wind’s at my back And life seems to be going fine I still do the things… that keep me afloat …So I’m away laughing again & again. …So I’m away laughing again Bridge There are places & spaces I don’t go anymore Coz I’ll end up flat on the floor Finding the ways to keep ‘floating my boat’ Don’t seem so hard anymore …and I’m away laughing again & again …So I’m away laughing again Repeat Chorus lines x 4 © Kieran Hegarty 29 Sept 2014

Time to Move On -words & music: Kieran Hegarty 2/4/22 Part A1 I’m a man who’s been walking in shadows Shrouded in a ghostly light Wandering…pondering the reasons Why…the future was out of sight Part B1 My truelove…passed into the heavens I’ve been crawling underground… Moving to the rhythm of my heartstrings Playing a dirge…that tied me down Chorus Then came the time…to move on… Put it behind me Time…to lay down my load A load that drained…a load that wore me out It was time to get back on the road. Part A2 I have gol-den memories aplenty They will al-ways be there But I need…space to create new ones …Weaved as a magic pair Part B2 My deep love…is always within me It’s not a ‘thing’…that I can lose Opening my heart to new beginnings …A challenge that I choose Chorus Now it’s time…to move on Head where I want…to…be Time to find a new road A road that excites…a road that inspires me On a journey that I have composed. © Kieran Hegarty 2/4/22

Big Dreams 03:05
Big Dreams words & music: Adrian Peoples & Kieran Hegarty Part A1. Found the radio playin’ what my mind was entertainin’ This morning when I crawled out of bed And the friend I thought I was losing touch with Gave me a ring instead… Part B1. The girl who smiled in the grocery aisle Heard me singing her same sweet song On the ‘slog’ to the station, I was in a new space… Just dreaming & striding along Chorus I gotta get out …of what’s holding me in My crazy thoughts...have a mind of their own! If I don’t gamble…I got too much to lose I’m at the crossroads…and I gotta choose Part A2. Winters whistling… the days are dwindling But my rose can defiantly bloom As the sun pours down I stroll through town Feeling lucky… the forecast is ruined Part B2. I’ve been knocked down…struck to the ground But I found the helping hands When life’s cruel & unfair …and so hard to bear …I need a change of plans Chorus I gotta get out …of what’s holding me in My crazy thoughts...have a mind of their own! If I don’t gamble…I got too much to lose I’m at the crossroads…and I gotta choose ©2014 Adrian Peoples & Kieran Hegarty

Be Like That 03:28
Be Like That -words & music: Kieran Hegarty V1. There’s a prison that I live in, a ball & chain I’m draggin’ round A hundred burdens on my shoulders drive this beast into the ground I lay the traps that keep me captive, take the bait each time for sure Play ‘the hunter’ & ‘the hunted’…I can’t resist the lure V2. I’m a mouse & not a man here, let the sleeping giant lie Keep the blossom in the dark, don’t let it open to the sky Feel like I’m going round in circles, & vicious ones at that Making mountains out of molehills, a rod for my own back Chorus It’s all…self-inflicted...and it needn’t be like that self-inflicted...and it needn’t be like that self-inflicted...and it needn’t be like that V3. There’s a life I could be leading, where I’d be standing tall To face the “slings & arrows”…take the bull in by the horns Where I could laugh at failure…& take it in my stride Be an old dog learning new tricks like swallowing my pride V4. Oh to have my cake & eat it, not to settle for the crumbs Trust my imagination, when the chips are down To partner up with freedom & dance a merry tune To make ‘walking on the water’ a simple kind of move Chorus It could be initiated and really be like that Yeah…initiated and really be like that Yeah…initiated and really be like that

Friday Night 03:20
Friday Night -Kieran Hegarty 12/3/22 V1. The gravel sprays as he shoots down the driveway It’s Friday night & the old man’s...‘goin’ to town’ Just a few beers…a few bets…and a few mates Time to take the pressure down V2. The record player…launches a new world With melodies from ancient times Memories come coursing through my mother Triggered by time-honoured lines Chorus Tuning in…I feel my mood affected Sinking in…a wave has me upended Whistling…like a bird in the morning chorus Moving in time…to the rhythm on the goat skin V3. Her mind unwinds…as she savours the music She tells me tunes that have a ‘lovely lilt’ Takes a seat…after another long, long week Marvels at the warm sun on the foothills Chorus Tuning in…I feel my mood affected Sinking in…a wave has me upended Whistling…like a bird in the morning chorus Moving in time…to the rhythm on the goat skin. © Kieran Hegarty 12 March 2022

In Your Boots, Seamus Words & Music: Kieran Hegarty A century on…& I’m in your boots, Seamus Euphoria’s wave…is throwing me at the shore As I fight for my life…and a vision of Ireland To end England’s invasion…& eight-hundred year war. But there is no strand…for me to stand on There is no haven…on this coast at all… Just treacherous rocks…& a monstrous cliff face Irrupting in violence…in the heat of the storm. Our Armed Force, once so united…now bitterly divided Our fight more ferocious…than we’ve ever seen Our vision of ‘Ireland’…has become a poisoned question A wedge being driven to split…us…& our dreams. There’s no middle road…or so we’re being told The English say it’s a ‘take it…or leave it’ If the Anglo-Irish Treaty…is…not…signed They’ll be back…to invade…& overrule it. My mind was galvanized…by our bold Easter Uprising Independence was proclaimed…we’d have our own Republic My heart was mortified…when ‘The Tans’ burnt down our homestead It lit a fire in my belly…put a hunger in my stomach. So I can fight this Civil War…from the sacrifices we’ve bore And maybe there’s a chance…of agreements But I’ll never swear I’m loyal…to a British King Nor to an Empire’s Dominion…& it’s demons. We ambushed the ‘Green & Tans’…as Dromroe they overran They came & took me captive…beat me ‘till I couldn’t speak In the jail at Castleisland…they held me over three days Took me out to Mt Falvie…………….and they ‘did away’ with me. I was just 24…when the wave smashed me on the shore And some would say…that my life was wasted But a century on…many-enjoy-the freedom that I longed for And I have played a part in what they’re tasting I have played a part in what they’re tasting I have played a part in what they’re tasting © Kieran Hegarty 15/03/2023
