Matapouri Beach is east of Whangarei, in New Zealand’s province of Northland. My parents-in-law bought a small beach house there in 1992 and it’s been a place of rest & refuge for our extended families, for almost 30 yrs. It was a favourite spot of my late wife Louisa, who passed away from Cancer in 2001. Our son Nick & daughter Tara have grown up having this as their summer holiday destination and it’s where a lot of our special memories were made. I wrote it there, in December 2020.
